Bad Habits - How to Stop Dogs Chewing
Destructive chewing, particularly by teething puppies, must be cured.
Every time you see your dog chewing the furniture, clothing, or in fact,
anything he should not be chewing, stop him gently but firmly,
separating the dog and the object. Open his mouth the certain, safe way
by arching your hand over his muzzle and pressing his lips against his
teeth just behind the big canine .fangs. Take the article from him,
retaining your grip over the muzzle and say 'no' in a very firm voice.
As soon as he lets go, praise him for being a good boy, and give him
his rubber dog bone or ball to play with to re-establ ish his confidence
in you.
Do not give the dog old rolled-up stockings or shoes as toys.
How can he tell the difference between a discard shoe and one in use?
He certainly doesn't know the difference between an old laddered
stocking and your best nylons!
